Promoting Youth and EU migrants' participation in the EU Parliament elections 2009,Brussels 21-22 April 2009
The first Transnational Peer Review
Workshop took place in Brussels on the 21-22 of April and focused on
Promoting Youth and EU migrants participation in the EU Parliament
elections 2009. Its overall aim was to allow all the partners to get to
know each other strategies in terms of promoting participation but also
to support them with the external expertise.
The workshop brought together about 30
members from Local Support Groups who over two days had several
opportunities to exchange and compare their visions and difficulties in
promoting participation and knowledge about democratic Europe in a
structured but unlimited manner.
The external expertise and good tips
were provided by Communication experts putting a strong emphasis on the
new media and social networking, then campaigning expert provided an
overview of efficient and less efficient practices in elections
campaigns. We have also invited representatives from DG Communication
of European Parliament who have presented European Parliament's
strategy to increase the general turn out.
European Youth Forum has also been invited to present their activities and their campaign concerning the EP elections.
As part of the Fundamental Rights project we are all partner in, we are holding a survey on the tools people use online.

For the last month of the project, the whole LFDPD partners decided to hold a dissemination workshop of their good practices the 23rd and 24th of June in Brussels.
The overall objective was to link EU citizens with IT tools in order to let anyone who is interested in the domain of participatory democracy and the use of voting in European and local elections, to watch and participate online to the workshop.
While the first part of the workshop focused on showing the results of the project, the second part was a debate with young MEP’s on the theme “the use of voting”. On the second half of the day, we made a Webcast conference in order to gather some people of the local forum and interact with people in the conference as well as one local politician from Rotterdam, M. Lionel Martjin, City Council of Rotterdam - Charlois district (NL). Triggered by a video made by young people from Torino around the use of voting, the debate allowed the participants as well as the partner to question a local politician around the issues of participatory democracy and the use of voting.
